My Seafood Bowl breakfast and Matsushima Gourmet Tour
The historical port city of Shiogama is about 15 minutes by car from Matsushima kaigan. The Shiogama Seafood Wholesale Market is a popular place for locals to purchase fresh seafood. There are over 100 shops within the narrow space. Here you can purchase your favourite items to creat your own original seafood bowl for breakfast. After enjoying shopping and breakfast at the markets, head on over to the Shiogama Fish markets, which has a museum that you can learn about fish at. To head back to Matsushima, you should take the sightseeing boat. Once back in Matsushima, why not try making your own Kamaboko (seafood paste loaf), or try some of the oyster menus on offer.

My seafood bowl is created by purchasing your favourite seafood items at the Shiogama Seafood Wholesale Market and putting them on top of a bowl of rice. Once you have purchased your favourites, such as shrimp, tuna, salmon roe, or sea urchin, head on over to the restaurant space to get your bowl of rice. You can decorate the seafood bowl however you like. It’s sure to be a delicious and fun memory from your trip!

This fish market is where the seafood caught in the Sanriku bay and off the coast is brought in. On the 2nd floor is the Fish museum where you can learn more about the fish caught here. Usually, non-employees cannot enter the fish markets, however on days the boats have brought in a catch, you can watch the fish sales from 8am from the Fish museum. In the seperate building “Shiogama Uminoeki” you can do some shopping or by some food.
